Pillar Articles

Flagship Content, Cornerstone Content AKA Pillar Articles, will stay around long after the ’spike’ articles, which have little lasting impact, have faded. The latter will not convert first time readers into ’stayers’ or long term converts.
Pundits claim should write at least six major ‘pillar’ articles aimed at teaching your audience. Your articles should use video’s for instruction wherever possible and in the right context.
Basically, you should aim at an article of more than 500 words and include loads of tips and advice, generally as a “how to lesson”. In this way they will have long term appeal, and will bring in constant traffic, even when you have not updated your blog for a few weeks.
Pillar articles are not time dependent. They may well be buried in your archives over a long period of time. Sooner or later they will bring SEO traffic due to the back-links.
Obviously, Newsletters or Ezines are important as Pillar articles as they have long term value, as back issue reference. The newsletters by GarryParkes The Profit Pulling Project is a superb example. Another example is that of Gary Simpson’s Action Planner, down-loadable at his site motivationalselfesteem is another good example labelled “Time in Motion”. More about Flagship content on a later post.
